berwyn080714BERWYN – The office of State Senator Steven Landek (D-Bridgeview) offered information and provided assistance to the residents from Berwyn and the surrounding communities who came out to the 34th annual health fair in Berwyn on Thursday, August 7.

The annual fair is sponsored by the Berwyn Township Public Health District. Their goal is to provide easy access to different health resources to people who are looking for the most affordable care. This year a total of 66 exhibitors from Berwyn, Oak Park, Cicero, Lyons and Chicago attended the fair to assist over 300 residents with different health care plans.

Other services offered to residents as part of the fair included free health screenings and a blood drive hosted by the not-for-profit Heartland Blood Centers for those who were interested in donating. The Berwyn Township Public Health District continued their food drive push as well.

“We’re always happy to come out and support this annual event in Berwyn,” Landek said. “The health fair’s longevity and the high level of community interest shows what a worthwhile cause this is.”

Landek, who chairs the State Government & Veterans Affairs Committee in the Illinois State Senate, helped bring the veterans fair to Bridgeview.

“I was pleased to see seniors and veterans from Bridgeview and the neighboring communities take advantage of the services provided during the fair,” Landek said.

csxtBRIDGEVIEW – The office of Senator Steven Landek (D-Bridgeview) reports that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently began engineering and environmental studies on the CSXT Railroad underpass on Archer Ave at 63rd St.

IDOT says the purpose of these studies is to determine the priority of what improvements can be done within the scope of the project’s budget. The main emphasis of the project is to repair the super-structure on the deck, which carries trains over the roadway.

Other issues being looked at include the slope of the underpass and repaving of the roadway. The drainage system, which has caused flooding issues for decades, will also be evaluated as part of the studies.

“This is the first step in the process, but it is one that is needed,” Landek said.
